Alexander is the Creative Director of Chicago's historic Fine Arts Building & Studebaker Theater.
The Fine Arts Building, originally constructed in 1885 as the Studebaker Carriage Company's assembly and showroom, is a historic landmark on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Since 1898, it has been home to the studios and offices of artists, writers, musicians, instrument makers, poets, craftspeople, arts organizations, and more. Today it is the creative home for Chicago, housing offices for the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival, Chicago Jazz Institute, Chicago Opera Theater, as well as the bookstore Exile in Bookville and many private artists' studio spaces.
The Studebaker Theater, renovated in 2022, hosts performances from NPR's Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!, local nonprofits, and new musicals in development. In 2024, Alexander worked as the Associate Producer for Manual Cinema's critically acclaimed productions of Frankenstein and Christmas Carol at the Studebaker Theater.
Since starting his role in 2021, Alexander has overseen a revitalization in public awareness about the Fine Arts Building & Studebaker Theater. He created free exhibits and placards detailing the building's history and denoting prominent historic studios, and in 2023 put together a celebration for the building's 125th anniversary which brought over 7,000 visitors and led to October 13, 2023 being named "Fine Arts Building Day" by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Alexander does much of his creative work from Studio 924 at the Fine Arts Building.
